17 days and counting. For what you might ask? Deer Season, we say.. For many living in the Midwest, and elsewhere, this time of year brings much anticipation. For us, hunting is all about spending time in the great outdoors- with friends and family.
If you've never had a chance to experience it (and even if you have), check out Blaze Orange. In this visual recollection, Author Travis Dewitz captures the heart of deer camp, depicting traditions that spark your imagination. A few pages in and you'll know exactly what we're talking about. Below is one such image:
Preparing for this week (two weeks if you're in Minnesota), can take some time, especially if you're on the hunt for that sometimes hard to find, American Made label.
We've compiled a list of our favorite American Made, must-haves, that we think will make your time in the woods (or at the cabin) a bit more enjoyable. And while you're sitting in your stand, waiting for that elusive buck, think about all the good you are doing for American manufacturing.
THE A-LIST
1) Duluth Pack Rutstrum Gear Cruiser Pack:
The ability to carry all the essentials is a critical factor in determining how long you're able to sit tight, while bearing the elements. Extra gloves, hand warmers, pancho, rope, matches, etc.
2) Woodchuck Flask*:
Because we seldom leave home without one. And nothing warms you up more than....
*To be enjoyed after the hunt!
3) Big 'Ol Brick of Hunting Soap - Scent Eliminator:
Made with a unique formula that captures odors, smothers them, and prevents their release. As long as you're quiet, they'll never know you're there.
4) True-Nord Brass Compass:
If you don't think you'll need one of these, you're not venturing far enough.
5) Iron & Resin Deerskin Glove:
You've probably got a trusty pair for hunting, but what are you going to wear the rest of the time?
6) Iron & Resin Bandana:
At 23" x 23" this field rag will serve you over and over, and over again.
7) OneLogFire Camp Log:
Swapping stories about the hunt is always better when down by a fire. With OneLogFire, this can happen no matter where you might be telling your tales.8) Fox River Military Boot Socks
Those Made in USA boots are so well made, there is no reason to layer. You need a good wool blend sock designed to keep your feet dry. Just one pair of these will do the trick.
9) Rogue Industries Gentleman's Shave Kit
If you're donning a beard, which there is no doubt you are, this will be your toolbox.
10) Field Notes
Whether you're tracking your time in the woods, or keeping a log at the cabin. There will be many reasons for writing things down. Field Notes make it easy.
Happy Hunting!
