Celebrating 100 Years... With A Beard Contest
This past Memorial Day weekend, we had the pleasure of digging through some of our hometown's historic archives. One such archive that caught our attention was this remnant of a 1965 beard contest. The contest was just one of many events designed to help celebrate, as a small Wisconsin town turned 100 years old. Of the list of events, the beard contest seemed to have sparked the most attention, right behind the "gigantic firework display" and "competitive musket shoot." And with over 120 entrants, there was quite the display of furry faces.
With the latest trends in men's facial hair, the art of manliness, the rise of the lumbersexual, and events like Movember / No Shave November, it is fun to see-- that even in 1965, facial hair was not only a staple of our manlihood, but also a personal form of expression.
